Macon Sense is no longer in print due to high printing costs. We are evaluating an online-only version to offer quality content and promote local businesses through advertising. We will post an announcement here as soon as decisions are made. Any announcement will include instructions on how to submit information, articles, classifieds, editorials, etc. Thank you for your support and patience.

Macon Sense going forward

Despite an exceptional staff and dedicated freelance writers, printing a local community paper was always going to be tough. Statistically, newspapers around the country have been ceasing their printed versions at a rate of two per week. Recent news of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution closing its print production confirms this challenge. But we had a desire to put something in the hands of our people, something rich with our own stories. Something that would cause locals and tourists to love Macon County even more.

“Thus, this is our aim: a newspaper that honors God. A source of light in an age of dark news. To create a paper where young journalists are trained to report the facts and not their opinions. To provide an outlet where local leaders, pastors, teachers, business owners, mothers and fathers, field experts, and guest columnists can write. A community newspaper that informs you about today while also casting hope for tomorrow – that is the goal” (Casey Wilson, Oct. 12, 2023).

For the past two years Macon Sense achieved this goal, but at a significant cost.

PUBLISHER CASEY Wilson

In June, we publicly addressed the challenges we faced and the need for donor support in “A Letter from the Publisher, June 19, 2025.” We received a positive response, but it was not sufficient. Our goal was to raise approximately $5,000 each month to ensure the future of Macon Sense. Despite the overwhelming verbal support and ongoing praise, we were unable to reach this target.

As of now, the plan is for Sept. 25 to be the final print edition of Macon Sense. However, we are strongly considering a future version of Macon Sense that would be web-based only. But even a web-based-only version of Macon Sense requires significant support and commitment from businesses and donors.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our readers for their support, including the numerous emails and letters we’ve received, as well as the local businesses and organizations that have advertised with us. As we explore options for the future of Macon Sense, we encourage you to stay connected with us online at maconsense.org and on social media.

It has been a true honor to publish a newspaper for our community that has been so well received. Our goal has always been to see this publication continue, and we hope to find a way forward in the coming weeks. Thank you for being a part of Macon Sense.
