The annual high school tennis fundraising tournament took place on recently refurbished courts at the Macon County Recreation Park in Franklin. Franklin High School (FHS) Men’s Tennis Coach Sammy Gunter said that 55 tennis players (17 current or former FHS as well as Macon Middle School athletes) participated.

JEFF BOSIO with his wife, Andrea, who is a coach of the girls high school tennis team, won the A-group Mixed Doubles.

“It looks like after all outstanding bills are paid, profits from the fundraiser will be around $3,900,” said Gunter. “A special ‘Thank You’ to our great sponsors and players who helped make this a successful event.”

Woodward improves on Ultra-Trail performance

Franklin native Canyon Woodward shared an embrace with his mother, Trish Severin,  shortly after finishing the 2025 Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc in Chamonix, France, on Aug. 30. The Ultra-Trail is a 174km (108-mile) race that draws the best trail runners in the world.

This year, runners competed in rain, freezing winds, and a heavy snowstorm at high elevations. Woodward finished 13th overall, with a time of 22 hours and 3 minutes. This year’s finish saw a marked improvement for Woodward, as he advanced 10 spots from his finish last year, when he placed 23rd.
