Honey harvest time

In late June, beekeepers (apiarists) throughout Macon County pulled their wildflower honey from hives. As July wrapped up, sourwood, the other type of honey prevalent in this region, was harvested.

Alberto Hernandez (pictured above) is one beekeeper who recently collected sourwood honey from several hives while teaching his young sons, Luis (back right), Jonathan (front left), and Alex (front right) apiarist skills. Both types of honey are available for sale at local farmers markets, produce stands, and retailers.
