The Presidency deserves a true statesman

Letter to the Editor

Donald Trump is notorious for leaning on a handful of words and phrases to dismiss, delegitimize, and attack anyone or anything he dislikes: hoax, fake, fraud, rigged, unfair, phony, sleepy, crazy, crooked, sad, nasty, and stupid are among his favorites. He demeans others and resorts to lawsuits as his go-to methods of retaliation.

Throughout his life, Trump has relied on trickery and deceit to serve one purpose: himself – in the pursuit of money, power, fame, and admiration.

A true statesman and leader, by contrast, is principled, honest, ethical, inspirational, wise, respectful, and above all, a unifier – not a divider. The President of the United States is expected to put the needs of the people above personal ambition. Donald Trump is no statesman.
