Filing closes for municipal elections

July 18 was the deadline to file to run for open seats in local town government. Candidates who have filed with the Macon County Board of Elections and plan to run include Vice Mayor Stacy Guffey and Matthew Holland for Franklin mayor; and, Jeff Berry, Travis Higdon, Rita Salain, Kelton Bailey, Paul Thatcher, Kore Newman, and Tim Cook for Franklin Town Council.

Running for the Town of Highlands Board of Commissioners are Amy Patterson and Eric Pierson. Current Mayor Patrick Taylor, and Paul Ordner are running for Highlands mayor.

Only voters that have resided in the municipality of Franklin or Highlands for 30 days or more are eligible to vote in a Municipal Election.

Upcoming dates involving the 2025 Municipal Elections are:

  • Oct. 3 – absentee by mail begins
  • Oct. 10 – voter registration deadline
  • Oct. 16 – early voting begins
  • Oct. 21 – 5 p.m. – last day to request absentee by mail
  • Nov. 1 – 3 p.m. – early voting ends
  • Nov. 3 – 5 p.m. – UOCAVA – last day to request a ballot
  • Nov. 4 – Election Day
