Letter to the Editor

As the president and volunteer coordinator for the Taste of Scotland Celtic Festival and Highland Games, we just wanted to add our personal thanks to the many individuals and organizations who helped make our festival a huge success this year.

First, to the Franklin/Nantahala Tourism Development Committee and the Town of Franklin/Tourism Development Authority for awarding us grants to help fund our festival. To Highlander Roofing for lending us the use of two billboards for advertising. To the 30 businesses which assisted us financially with sponsorships.

To the 18 individuals who worked in shifts to sell tickets at three gates. To the Breacan Clann for demonstrating life in early Scotland and sword-fighting techniques.

To members of the American Legion Otto Post 553 who came the day before the festival to set up tents and assist with other preparations. To the Arts Council of Macon County, which coordinated the performances of the musicians Finn McGill and Will MacMorran.

To the 828Vets who sold tickets and came at the close of the festival to take down tents and pack up.

To the Lyndon B. Johnson Job Corps students who directed traffic and parking.

To the New Century Scholars who sold tickets and helped with the children’s activities. To the Scouts of America Troop 202 who served as Color Guards for the parade at the Ceilidh on Main Street Friday evening and for the two parades at the festival on Saturday.

To Emma Davis, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Clayton Davis, for being our new Little Miss Tartan.

And, a very special thank-you to all the people of Franklin and Macon County who attended our festival and made it such a success! Our heartfelt thanks to all of you.
