Live Saturday music offered by Friends of the Greenway (FROG) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 573 E. Main Street, Franklin. Upcoming on July 5, Charley Simmons and Cricket Woodward.

A Macon County Master Gardener will be at the Holly Springs Community Building, 2720 Cat Creek Road, Monday, July 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. to answer plant and garden questions and continuing on the first Monday of each month. Gardening-related handouts will also be available. This is a free, community service offering.

Angel Medical Center Open House is on Friday, July 11, from 1 to 3 p.m., 124 One Center Court, Franklin. See the latest in surgical services and ask questions of AMC providers. See the hospital’s newest robotic surgical technology and learn more about the variety of services offered. Light refreshments will be served.

Pickin’ on the Square will feature Mission Accomplished (classic rock) on July 12; Tribe Called Praise (contemporary Christian) on July 26. Sponsored by the Town of Franklin, Pickin’ happens every other Saturday through October and features local and regional musical talent as well as food and beverages for sale. Bring a chair. Rabies Vaccination Clinic is Saturday, July 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Cartoogechaye School, 3295 Old Murphy Rd., Franklin. Shots for all dogs and cats are $10 each; cash only. Pets must be kept in vehicles or on a leash. For more information call (828)349-2106.

Antique Walk and Craft Market at Cowee School Arts & Heritage Center Saturday, July 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center is located at 51 Cowee School Dr., 6 miles north of Franklin on Hwy. 28.

Franklin Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, July 14, at 11 a.m. at the Robert C. Carpenter Community Center, 1288 Georgia Road, Franklin. Visit Franklin NC Garden Club on Facebook to keep up with events and to learn how to get involved. 

Baked Potato Fundraiser at Iotla Methodist Church Friday, July 18, 4 p.m.; baked potatoes, toppings, drink, and desert are provided.

The Franklin Bird Club leads walks on Wednesday mornings along the Little Tennessee Greenway. Walks begin at 8 a.m. at alternating locations. Upcoming walks are: July 9: Macon County Library parking lot; July 16: Big Bear parking lot near the playground; and, July 23: Salali Lane.

Historic Rickman Store at 259 Cowee Creek Road is open, Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through December. Music jams, local crafts, and unique antique items, and refreshments are offered.

James Thompson’s Classic Country Sound bluegrass and gospel music the first and third Friday at 60 Firehouse Road behind the Otto Fire Department. Hosted by Otto Community Development Club.

Franklin Alcoholics Anonymous “Open Meetings” are for anyone who thinks they may have a drinking problem or for anyone interested in the A.A. recovery program. Franklin Al-Anon “Live and Let Live” Family Group in-person meetings are Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. at St. Agnes Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 66 Church St. Parking is behind the church. Al-Anon is a fellowship of friends and family dealing with the impact of another’s drinking or substance abuse. Former principal will speak on the history of Cowee School for ‘Where We Live’ series July 21

Cowee School Arts & Heritage Center, Monday, July 21, presents the free series “Where We Live: History, Nature, and Culture,” with featured speaker Bill Dyar, long-time principal of the school; Stacy Guffey, founding director of the Arts and Heritage Center; and, Laura Brooks, current director. At 6:30 p.m., they will present the history of the stone school, from the days of the site as a Conservation Corp camp, construction by the WPA (Works Progress Administration) during the 1940s, more than six decades as a public school, to its present as a thriving community and arts center. Former students, former teachers, and community members will be invited to share their school stories and memories. Old photos will also be displayed.

The center is located at 51 Cowee School Drive, six miles north of Franklin on Highway 28.
