As the 2024-2025 school year nears its end, some Franklin High School (FHS) students are already committing to their next level of education or future career. The month of April saw numerous student athletes as well as future military service members sign up for their next undertaking following their graduation from high school.
Most recently, on April 29, three U.S. Navy Recruiters were on hand at the FHS Media Center for a signing ceremony that included three seniors who have enlisted in the Navy. Principal Blair King introduced the students and Navy Career Counselor Roger Jones, who supervises the Asheville and Sylva area recruiting offices, read the enlistment certificate that each student signed at the ceremony. The students then individually told those assembled about their future jobs.

For their particular rates, or career fields, Charlotte Fisher chose the Submarine Electronics/Computer field. Macy Vanderwoude will be attending school to become an Intelligence Specialist, and Caleb Smith will be working in the Advance Computer Electronics field.
The students are currently in what is known as the Delayed Entry Program, which means they have enlisted, taken the oath, and are awaiting orders to boot camp, which is held at Naval Station Great Lakes, in Illinois.
On April 28, senior McKenna Plemmons signed on with Montreat College, a private, Christian Liberal Arts school in North Carolina. McKenna will play basketball for the Cavaliers within the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

On April 24, seniors and twin brothers Adam and David Rogers each signed letters of intent for track and field at the University of North Carolina Pembroke, located south of Fayetteville.

Both Adam and David were part of the track team that recently won the Mountain 7 Conference Championship competing in various track and field events, including the pole vault, in which Adam is now the school record holder for the indoor pole vault. As Braves, they will continue their track and field career at the NCAA Division II level.

On April 22, senior Zoi Walker committed to Piedmont University on a swimming scholarship. The Demorest, Ga., based school is a NCAA Div. III institution and has approximately 2,500 students.
