We realize there have been unfounded statements made regarding the Appalachian Animal Rescue Center (AARC) organization and threats made toward various Board of Directors (BOD). This organization has been caring for the animals of Macon County for over 62 years; we are not going anywhere but forward. There are two sides to every story.
Our entire financial portfolio is handled by established financial institutions that require dual control for all withdrawals and an accounting firm that handles payroll, tax reporting and appropriate financial statements.
Two years ago, we were left with barely enough funds to stay open more than two months. Our BOD wrote personal checks to keep the employees in a job. The BOD participated in many events not only to raise money but to make the public aware of needs, who we are and what we do. The BOD also planned and executed two big fundraising events last year along with raising grant money for repairs, renovations and spay/neuter assistance.
Accomplishments:
- Shelter: Reno of big dog runs, replaced old fencing with cement block walls, added two carports for the outside dog runs for shade, remodeled the kitten room, currently working on one of the sick rooms, have passed all inspections.
- Thrift store: Had old house removed, graded and seeded area to replace with another storage facility. New carport for intake area, new fencing,
- Security cameras in place for both locations for safety of animals, staff and customers.
Going forward – due to unforeseen circumstances our web site was taken down and is in the initial stage of construction. This is another expense so please be patient until it is completed.
We are raising funding now for new kennel gates at the shelter and a new storage building for our thrift store. We will be moving furniture inside the store and household goods to the new shed. The intake building at the shelter continues to be a work in progress.
We will continue to support the animals in our care at our no kill shelter and will continue to offer our spay/neuter program through the ASPCA and offer low-cost solutions. We will continue to support our thrift store, employees and volunteers at our shelter and thrift store.
We look forward to working with new volunteers and new board members. We appreciate your continued support of our shelter and thrift store.
