The week of April 7 saw two Franklin High School (FHS) female student athletes sign with colleges under athletic scholarships.

Tuesday, April 8, senior Cali Queen committed to Glenville State University in West Virginia. While she played both volleyball and basketball in high school, she was recruited by Glenville to play volleyball.

CALI QUEEN, with Franklin High School coaches Cindy Harrell and Bekah Brooks, recently signed to play volleyball at Glenville University in West Virginia.

Two days later, on April 9, multi-sport participant Charley Seagle, also a senior, followed suit, signing with Mars Hill University, near Asheville, on a track and field scholarship. While at FHS, Charley excelled in the shotput event and led the school for numerous years in that category. During her time at FHS, Charley also played basketball and softball.

FHS SENIOR Charley Seagle committed to a track and field scholarship at Mars Hill University with her family present at the signing table.

After the signing, Charley’s throwing coach, Ryan Danehy, spoke on her behalf and recalled starting his new position last year. “From my first day, she had my back and was super supportive of me as a new coach coming in … it was easier having someone of her caliber [to coach], which is not something many coaches get to do – have a top athlete in the state.”

Both students will finish out their senior year at FHS in May and begin college life in September.
