Sweet Carolina Music Festival shining spotlight on eight up-and-coming artists

The Sweet Carolina Music Festival is happening Saturday, May 3, at the Macon County Veterans Memorial Park from 2 to 9 p.m. The festival will be showcasing eight up-and-coming artists from all around the region, including John Morgan. (See the previous story here.)

Featured artists

Joe Lasher is a country music artist and songwriter from Weaverville, N.C. He started performing as a teenager and is influenced by a variety of different genres ranging from traditional country to heavy metal, all of which has helped him to foster a unique sound that is all his own. Currently in Nashville, Lasher has toured nationwide with country stars like Tim McGraw, Morgan Wallen, Ashley McBryde, Hardy, and Chris Janson.

Jennifer Hart was raised in Gilbert, Ariz. She is a singer/songwriter and former Miss Arizona (2013) who married Franklin native, Rob Ricotta. Their wedding was featured in People magazine.  Her love of music led her to Nashville where she immersed herself in the songwriter scene. Her breakthrough came in 2020 with her viral hit “Half the Man,” a father-daughter anthem.

Jason Passmore (pictured above) is a Macon County native, who stepped onto the stage for the first time with his father at age 5. He is a performer and singer-songwriter whose style is a blend of country, rock, and blues. He has performed with country music alums like Aaron Tippin and Tracy Lawrence. 

Chip Perry Band originated in the small farming town of Silk Hope, N.C. Perry is a singer/songwriter who learned to play the guitar at the age of 12. He transitioned into song writing and performing, in 2012 formed The Chip Perry Band, and has played with national acts like Jamey Johnson and Chris Lane.

Alton Lane Band was founded by Greg Suttles, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., and Art Brauer, a native of Keene, N.H., both life-long musicians who met in Franklin in 2021. They are known for playing favorite covers and are inspired by classic country and rock. 

R.A. Nightingale is a singer/songwriter and cover artist from Franklin. She grew up surrounded by family musicians and is currently writing original songs and working towards a career in the music industry.
