On Friday, Jan. 24, just four days into Donald Trump’s second non-consecutive term as president, he flew to Asheville, was met by a large crowd, and immediately began a press conference about his plans to relieve the plight of thousands of people affected by last September’s Hurricane Helene.

First, however, he thanked by name individuals present who are serving the state of North Carolina, including State Senator and Macon County native Kevin Corbin (Rep.) and House Majority Whip Karl Gillespie (Rep.). The two men who represented districts that include Macon County sat to the far left of Pres. Trump, who was flanked by First Lady Melania Trump and Pastor Franklin Graham of Samaritan’s Purse. After the press conference, the entourage visited hard-hit areas in Asheville and in surrounding counties.
