Macon County Beekeepers Association is holding its monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Macon County Extension Office at 193 Thomas Heights Road, Franklin.  More details at www.maconncbeekeepers.com. 

Repairs to Macon County Public Library will begin Monday, Jan. 6, and will address problems with the porte-cochere first, then move inside the building to address issues with the central timber frame ceiling. As all foot and vehicle traffic under our porte-cochere will be blocked, the nearby meeting room door will function as the main library entrance and exit. Traffic will be directed around the parking lot to the accessible side of the building. Meeting room usage during and after hours will be affected during this time. Free movie offered by American Legion Post 108 twice a month. From educational material about the U.S., history, and the Constitution, to entertaining movies for the whole family. Franklin Garden Club offers “Garden Tools: Tool ID and Maintenance,” Monday, Jan. 6, during its 12 p.m. monthly meeting at Robert C. Carpenter Community Center, 1288 Georgia Road, Franklin. Visit Franklin NC Garden Club on Facebook to keep up with events and activities, and to learn how to get involved. 

Healthy Little Learners every second Tuesday, 10 a.m. at the Macon County Library. Storytime and fun hands-on activities. The theme for Jan. 11 is “My Happy Plate.” The library is located at 149 Siler Farm Road. For more information, call (828)524-3600.

A community volunteer workday hosted by MountainTrue, in partnership with the Mainspring Conservation Trust and the Friends of the Greenway (FROGs), is planned for Saturday, Jan. 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. to control non-native invasive plants and restore native habitats at the Little Tennessee Greenway in Franklin. Slanted Window Tasting Station hosts musician Ray Ferrara, Sunday, Jan. 19, at 5 p.m. The Station is located at 587 Harrison Ave., Franklin.

The Franklin Chamber of Commerce is taking nominations for Citizen of the Year, The Duke Power Citizenship and Service Award, Youth Citizenship Award, and Club/Organization of the Year. Nomination letters can be delivered to the Franklin Chamber of Commerce at 98 Hyatt Road or emailed to [email protected]. Nomination deadline is Thursday, Jan. 16. “Where We Live: History, Nature and Culture,” series continues Monday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m., at the Cowee School Arts & Heritage Center. Wildlife biologist Dr. Chris Jenkins, will discuss snakes and other reptiles and amphibians in this area and will offer an overview of The Orianne Society’s efforts to conserve these creatures. He will explain the crucial role reptiles and amphibians play in Appalachian ecosystems and how conservation efforts are working to protect them. The center is located at 51 Cowee School Drive, six miles north of Franklin.

Franklin Alcoholics Anonymous “Open Meetings” are for anyone who thinks they may have a drinking problem or for anyone interested in the A.A. recovery program.
