What is the deal with the Amazon wish lists?

Is your Facebook feed littered with Amazon Wish Lists? I know mine are. Teachers tend to buy the majority of needed classroom supplies. As an English Language Arts teacher, I buy many books for my classroom library.

Do we have to buy supplies or books for our classrooms? Absolutely not, but it is nice to have these supplies to make the classroom more inviting to students. Amazon Wish Lists have emerged as a powerful resource, allowing educators to streamline the process of acquiring classroom supplies. Amazon Wish Lists are personalized lists of items that users can create and share with others.

For teachers, these lists can include anything from basic supplies like pencils and notebooks to more specialized materials like science kits and educational games. By sharing these lists with parents, community members, and even the broader public, teachers can receive much-needed items to support their classroom activities.

I have two wish lists for my classroom: one for supplies and one for books. As a newer teacher, building a personal library for students is important to me and something I love to do. I have donated many of my personal books to my library, and I love talking to students about books we have both read. Students will learn about my preferences for books fairly quickly (no horror for me) as they suggest their own favorites. One student even bought me a book to read over the summer.

I am constantly looking at thrift stores, friends of the library events, or yard sales for appropriate books to place on my meager bookshelves. If you see a wish list, share it to your page to get others in the community to see it. Or, if you can donate books and supplies before a new school year begins, any teacher in Macon County would be very appreciative.
