Town & County meetings update

At the May 6 Town of Franklin Council meeting, these upcoming recognitions were announced: Police Week – May 12–18; Fallen Officers Memorial Day – May 17; and Public Works Week – May 19–25. A Public Works report and water treatment and wastewater related issues were discussed at the May 6 meeting. The next regularly scheduled Town Council meeting is Monday, June 3. A Special-Called Town Council meeting is Monday, May 20, for a budget work session. Town offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day in accordance with the N.C. State Holiday schedule.

  • The Macon County Board of Commissioners meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the commissioners boardroom of the Macon County Courthouse, third floor. May 14 is the next meeting. Agendas, handouts, minutes, and a full video of the proceedings are available by visiting https://maconnc.org/roster.html.
  • The Macon County Board of Education will hold its regular scheduled meeting May 20 at 6 p.m. at Nantahala School, 213 Winding Stairs Road, Topton. The meeting will be live-streamed and can be accessed by visiting www.macon.k12.nc.us.
