Macon County NC Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1993. Nationally, Habitat for Humanity was a concept realized in the 1970s. In 2012, Macon and Jackson County Habitat for Humanity affiliates merged to better serve families in our region.
Our combined affiliate headquarters is located in Franklin, while we have maintained our two Restore locations, one in Franklin and one in Sylva, where we sell all kinds of new and gently used home goods, clothing, appliances, fixtures, and furniture as well as a plethora of hardware for home repairs, all at a fraction of the cost of other stores. All proceeds from our Restores go toward paying for the cost of materials, labor, etc. for new homes and repair projects.
Twenty-eight new homes have been constructed and numerous repair projects have provided stability and self-reliance to enable qualified Macon County families to build a better future. A decent place to call home and an affordable mortgage enables Habitat homeowners to save more, invest in education, pursue opportunities, and have greater financial stability.
Our mission is to put God’s love into action. Our repair program provides necessary home repairs to those who cannot afford to do so for themselves, at no cost to the homeowner. This no-cost repair program is unique to our Habitat branch and we have full intention to keep it that way. Funding and labor for projects, such as home repairs and handicap ramps, are nearly 100% donation and volunteer based, relying heavily on the support of our local communities.
We are able to sustainably address the needs of our community with the combination of Restore profits, willing donors, and regular volunteers. Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope in Macon, Jackson County, and beyond.
Anyone interested in applying for home repairs, becoming a volunteer, or giving to support our mission, can call our office at (828) 369-3716 or visit our website at habitatmaconjackson.org. We hope you will consider partnering with us in helping your neighbors in need and being the hands and feet of Christ.
