At a recent open house event, community leaders and representatives had an opportunity to visit offices and learn about what the Macon County NCWorks Career Center offers. Located next to the courthouse in Franklin, it is one of more than 80 career centers across North Carolina.
As part of the American Job Center Network, our mission is to help bring businesses and local talent together, so both can thrive. That’s why we’re so committed to assisting individuals at every step of their job search journey, finding employment and companies in obtaining qualified workers they need, all at no cost.
NCWorks Career Advisors not only post jobs but provide labor market data, such as wages and tax credit information for hiring particular groups of employees; we also coordinate hiring events, assist businesses with developing recruitment strategies, and offer space to conduct interviews, assessments, and testing using one of our six computers in our computer resource center. We conduct workshops for employers as needed, develop relationships with new business, and more.
The computer information system we use is called NCWorks Online (www.ncworks.gov) and we serve a variety of customers, including youth, individuals re-entering the workforce from being justice-involved, veterans, seniors, or anyone needing assistance with finding a job or advancing their career. When a customer comes into our center, we meet with them one on one and ask questions to learn about their needs.
There are standards we must meet, but how we assist our customers is as individualized as they are. We assist with everything from registration into NCWorks Online, resume and cover letter preparation, job searches – locally and nationally – and provide computer/internet access for job searches, mock interviews, and more.
We also have numerous workforce partners we can tap into, depending on a customer’s needs, such as educational assistance programs, dislocated worker retraining assistance, Second Chance Peer Support assistance, community outreach and more.
